Lancée en 1934, la Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe est une guitare jumbo à table plate et manche 12 frettes, conçue pour le style hawaïen et très prisée aujourd’hui par les collectionneurs pour sa sonorité puissante et résonnante. Ce modèle de 1935 présente un corps à épaules arrondies de 16 pouces avec une table en épicéa et un dos et des éclisses en acajou, un barrage en X et une construction légère qui offre une profondeur, une chaleur et une projection exceptionnelles parmi les flat tops les plus puissantes produites par Gibson dans les années 1930.

Les spécifications d’usine comprenaient un manche hawaïen large de 2 1/4 pouces avec un sillet surélevé, des lignes de frettes en ivoiroïde (pas de frettes métalliques), un barrage plus lourd que celui des jumbo de style espagnol, un simple binding sur la table et le dos, un pickguard original à rayures tigrées, des incrustations en points et une finition sunburst avec le Gibson « Script Logo » et le nom du modèle sérigraphiés sur la tête. Comme pour toutes les Stage Deluxe, la conversion en une guitare de style espagnol nécessite des modifications irréversibles (réajustement du manche, frettage et changement des sillets). Cette guitare est en grande partie conforme à ce que devrait être une Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe d’origine. Le chevalet a été légèrement modifié afin d’accueillir un sillet compensé pour une meilleure intonation et jouabilité et le rapprocher des spécifications d’une Gibson à table plate. Sinon, elle est d’origine et n’a subi aucune réparation ni modification. La patine du vernis est vraiment magnifique… Un son énorme! Livrée en étui original.

1935 GIBSON ROY SMECK STAGE DELUXE HAWAIIAN CONVERTED

Launched in 1934, the Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe is a jumbo guitar with a flat top and 12-fret neck, designed for Hawaiian style playing and highly prized today by collectors for its powerful, resonant sound. This 1935 model features a 16-inch rounded shoulder body with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, X-bracing, and a lightweight construction that offers exceptional depth, warmth, and projection among the most powerful flat tops produced by Gibson in the 1930s.

Factory specifications included a wide 2 1/4-inch Hawaiian neck with a raised nut, ivoroid fret lines (no metal frets), heavier bracing than Spanish-style jumbos, single binding on the top and back, an original tiger-stripe pickguard, dot inlays, and a sunburst finish with the Gibson “Script Logo” and model name screen-printed on the headstock. As with all Stage Deluxe guitars, conversion to a Spanish-style guitar requires irreversible modifications (neck adjustment, refretting, and nut replacement). This guitar is largely consistent with what an original Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe should be. The bridge has been slightly modified to accommodate a compensated nut for better intonation and playability and to bring it closer to the specifications of a flat-top Gibson. Otherwise, it is original and has not undergone any repairs or modifications. The patina of the finish is truly magnificent… A huge sound! Comes in its original case.
