MARTIN 0-16 NY  » NEW YORKER » de 1975

Martin 0-16NY de 1975, fabriquée à Nazareth en Pennsylvanie,  dos et éclisses en acajou, table en épicéa,  manche en acajou avec touche en palissandre.

Introduite en 1961, la 0-16NY est conçue comme une guitare pour le jeu avec cordes acier ou nylon : en effet, elle nous renvoie à la guitare Martin telle qu’elle est fabriquée jusqu’à 1929, date marquant un tournant pour le fabricant de Nazareth puisque c’est alors qu’il entame la transformation définitive de ses guitares en des instruments purement destinés au jeu avec des cordes acier (l’introduction des modèles orchestres OM en est la preuve sans équivoque). On relève plusieurs éléments particuliers dans sa construction : forme de caisse réduite, manche comportant 12 cases hors caisse, tête ajourée, largeur de la touche au sillet de tête accrue, une décoration épurée avec une finition satinée, et son barrage qui est plus léger que les Martin à cordes acier ce qui lui confère une sonorité particulièrement ouverte et étonnamment puissante au regard de la taille de l’instrument.

L’exemplaire présenté ici est l’un des 136 instruments identiques expédiés pour l’année 1975, et, est en excellent état de conservation. Nous relevons le changement des mécaniques, autrement la guitare est exceptionnellement exempte de fentes, cassures, ou autres dommages et ne présente que très peu d’usure en dépit de ses 50 ans sur Terre. Jouabilité parfaite. Livrée en étui non original.

Introduced in 1961, the 0-16NY is conceived as a guitar for playing with steel or nylon strings: indeed, it takes us back to the Martin guitar as it was made up to 1929, a turning point for the Nazareth manufacturer as it began the definitive transformation of its guitars into instruments intended purely for playing with steel strings (the introduction of the OM orchestral models is unequivocal proof of this). The 0-16NY comes from the previous generation of Martin guitars, and to this end it features a number of special construction elements: a reduced body shape, a neck with 12 frets outside the body, a perforated headstock, a wider fingerboard at the nut, a streamlined design with a satin finish, and a bracing that is lighter than the steel-string Martin models, giving it a particularly open and surprisingly powerful sound for the size of the instrument.

The example presented here is one of 136 identical instruments shipped in 1975, and is in excellent condition. Otherwise, the guitar is exceptionally free of cracks, breaks or other damage, and shows very little wear despite its 50 years on Earth. Perfect playability. Comes in a non original case.
